European construction output sees July rebound

European construction output rebounded in July from the biggest drop in six months, led by increasing production in Germany. 
Construction in the 17-nation euro region advanced 1.4 per cent from June, when it declined a revised 1.3 per cent, the European Union’s statistics office in Luxembourg said today. The first shipment of 150,000t of OPC out of 400,000t bought for US$34.6m by Ethiopia’s Public Procurement and Disposal Agency (PPDA), is to arrive in two weeks time. Cemex Latvia targets 1Mta of production in 2011

Cemex Latvia plans to produce and sell more than 1Mt of cement in 2011, the company’s Commercial Director Maris Gruznins told local press.

 Mr Gruznins  said that this has been made possible as the company’s new line at its Broceni works has been operating at full capacity for about a year now. "In 2010 we sold slightly more than 900,000t of cement, while this year it could be over a 1Mt," he said.

Effective February 1, 2012 Bernard Fontana, presently CEO of Aperam, a company recently spun-off from ArcelorMittal, is to assume the position of CEO of Holcim Ltd. Azerbaijan boosts cement production

Azerbaijan produced nearly 895,5000t of cement in the first eight months of 2011, up six per cent from the same period of last year. For full year 2010 cement production totalled 1.28Mt, 0.6 per cent less than that produced in 2009, which in turn was down 19.7 per cent on 2008 figures. 

Yanbu production line faces delay, Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu Cement said that a production line scheduled to open by the end of this month will be delayed because of a lack of oil and natural gas needed to power its output. “The major reason impacting the operation of the new line 5 is the non-availability of a fuel allocation,” general manager Saud Saleh Islam said. The opening schedule will depend on the timing of this allocation, he said. The production line will increase Yanbu Cement’s capacity from 3.6Mta to 7Mta.
