Saudi Yanbu Cement to launch fifth line in Jan 2012

Saudi cement producer Yanbu Cement Co (YCC) said in a bourse filing yesterday it will launch its fifth production line, currently under construction, in January 2012. The new production line will have a daily capacity of 10,000t, bringing YCC capacity to 7Mta.

Pakistan cement exports fall in first two months

During the first two months of the current fiscal year (July 2011-August 2012) Pakistan exported 1.371Mt of cement and earned US$75.888m compared to 1.72Mt at US$80.900m in the same period of the previous year. This shows cement exports fell by 20.03 per cent in terms of quantity and 6.2 per cent in terms of value YoY, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics. Dangote to invest in new plant in Cameroon

The Dangote Group, Nigeria’s biggest cement producer, signed an agreement to build a US$115m plant in the West African nation of Cameroon. The plant in Cameroon’s northeastern port city of Douala will have a capacity of 1.5Mta, the company said in a statement. It will comprise a quarry and a cement-grinding unit, and will take between 14 months and 18 months to build. South Africa’s PPC forecasts lower profits

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) on Tuesday advised that it expects headline earnings per share for the year ending September 2011 to be between 25% and 30% lower than 218.7 cents previously. Egypt cement prices down as demand falls

Mirroring the economic slowdown in Egypt, cement prices have fallen by around 30 per cent, traders say. Cement plunged to EGP425 (US$71) this month from an average EGP700/t compared to September 2010, one trader said. Spanish volumes see double-digit declines

For the first eight months of 2011, Spain consumed 14.5Mt of cement, down 13.3% for the same period of 2010. Production stood at 15.7Mt, 12.4% lower than the first eight months of 2011. Exports figures, however, are similar to those recorded last year, reaching 2.7Mt. Imports, on the other hand, were down 37.6% YoU. For August 2011 alone, Spanish demand stood at 1.7Mt, representing a decline of 16.5% over August 2010, while the drop in production during the month was 23.5% to 1.8Mt.

Cameroon cement consumption to increase threefold

Cement consumption in Cameroon may climb to as much as 8Mta by 2013, from about 2.5Mt now, Cameroon Radio and Television said. Demand for the building material will increase as the West African nation invests in energy and transport infrastructure, the state-owned broadcaster said, citing Badel Ndanga Ndinga, minister of industry, mines and technological development.

Pakistan cement sales rise 7%

Pakistan rose seven per cent to 5.2Mt on the back of higher demand in the first two months of fiscal 2012. Kuwait Cement to import limestone from UAE

Kuwait Cement Co (KCC) has signed a US$500m long-term contract with UAE’s Ras Al Khaimah Rock Co to import limestone, Zawya news reported. Under the deal, RAK Rock will supply large quantities of limestone over 20 years to KCC’s plant in Shuaiba industrial estate, the cement company said.
