Orascom plans to bid for Egypt licence

Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) is planning to bid for Egypt’s new cement production licenses to be offered in October as it plans to increase investments in the country, the company’s construction unit head said. He added that the company plans to invest in the Libyan and Tunisian markets.

Lafarge and Strabag venture inaugurated, Hungary

Lafarge and Strabag on Thursday inaugurated a €270m cement plant in Királyegyháza (SW Hungary). The plant has a capacity to produce 750,000t of clinker and 1Mta of cement and is expected to reach full capacity in 2-3 years. 

Lafarge chairman Bruno Lafont said this new cement plant will inject an annual HUF2.5bn into the economy. Lafarge is considering exporting some of the plant’s output later.

Siam Cement Group (SCG), Thailand’s top industrial conglomerate, says its cement sales volumes this year remain on track to grow 5% over 2010 despite severe flooding but margins will be squeezed due to price reductions and rising fuel costs. Katavsky Cement meets August target

Katavsky Cement JSC, part of the Eurocement Group, produced 128,255t of cement, 10,255t than the planned figure. Between January to August, 656,625t of high-quality product was manufactured. The plant also produced 73,068 tons of clinker which is 12.4% above target. During the first eight months of this year 478,663t of clinker were produced. The mayor of Puerto Perez, the department of La Paz, aims to build a cement plant with the objective of generating employment for locals.

Lipetskcement surpasses production record, Russia

After producing a record 188,000t of cement in July, Lipetskcement set a new output record of 190,000t of cement for the month of August. For the first seven months of 2011, Lipetskcement produced 906,000t of cement up 107% YoY. Over the same period of 20111, 723,000t of clinker was produced. August clinker output was 102,000t. Total shipments since the start of 2011 were 897,000t.

Sabah market ‘adequately’ supplied, Malaysia

Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CIS) has increased its cement supply to ensure sufficient cement to meet the Sabah state market requirements.

 General Manager Kenny Yong said cement supply for Sabah and the Labuan Federal Territory had returned to normal since last month.

He said his company had procured raw material supply to the Sepanggar grinding plant here and had brought in bulk and bagged cement from Peninsular Malaysia and overseas to meet cement needs for Sabah and Labuan.

Jiangxi Wannianqing Cement said cement sales in the first eight months rose 2.22Mt YoY to 11.02Mt, reports Oriental Morning Post, citing a company filing. Ambuja Cement buys 60% in Dirk India

Ambuja Cements has acquired a 60% stake in Dirk India from its founders for INR165.1m (US$3.5m). Dirk India, based in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, manufactures fly ash. It has a capacity of 2500tpd, the cement producer said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Following the acquisition Dirk India Pvt Ltd. and its unit Dirk Pozzocrete (MP) Pvt. Ltd will become subsidiaries of the company, the filing said. Holcim owns a majority stake in Ambuja Cements.
