Lafarge Shui On investment, China

Lafarge Shui On Cement Co Ltd signed a deal on 21 September with the local government of Luquan, Yunnan Province to invest CNY800m into a cement manufacturing project, sources reported. The project will have an output of 4600tpd of cement and will take two years to construct.

Henan Tongli Cement Co., Ltd. has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in Yimei Group Cement from Yima Coal Industry (Group) Co, Ltd and assume CNY750m (US$117.93m) of its debt. Holcim plant to grow production by 54%, Ecuador

Holcim expects to increase production capacity at its plant in Ecuadorian capital Guayaquil by 54% starting next year. The company will spend US$120mn on expansion work and new machinery to boost cement production to 5.4Mta from 3.5Mta, local daily El Universo reported. Henan Tongli Cement plans to set up two joint ventures with two partners in Mozambique, reports according to a company filing. The company will establish a joint venture with Biworld International to build a clinker production facility with capacity of 1500tpd, and cement grinding stations with a capacity of 500,000tpa in Muxungue and in Tete. Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, Indonesia’s biggest cement maker by value, plans to build a plant in Pati, Central Java, at a cost of around US$300m, reports said on Wednesday. “Investment will be done in stages,’’ Sahat Panggabean, Indocement’s corporate secretary. “The company will set aside around US$100m for its initial investment,’’ Sahat said.

Lafarge employees go on hunger strike to oppose closure, France

Twelve employees of French cement company Lafarge went on hunger strike to oppose the closure of the company’s plant in Frangey, southeastern France. The closure is scheduled for April 2013.
