Argos completes purchase of Lafarge assets, USA

Colombia’s Cementos Argos has completed the US$76m purchase of a number of cement and ready-mix concrete assets from Lafarge having received approval from American competition authorities and complied with other necessary requirements. India: ACC reports rise in cement output and dispatches

ACC, India’s second largest cement producer, reported a rise in September 2011 production to 1.67Mt, up 9.9% on the same month of the previous year (1.52Mt). Dispatches for the period also increased 9.5% YoY to 1.73Mt. For the nine-months between January-September 2011, cement production was 17.76Mt, up 14% on the same period of last year (15.57Mt) and despatches 17.79Mt for the 2011 period which also represented a 14% YoY rise (15.59Mt).   

Jaiprakash September shipments rise 17%

India’s Jaiprakash Associates said cement shipments in September rose 17 per cent to 1.35Mt. The engineering and construction firm, which also has interests in hospitality and power, operates capacity to produce 21.3Mta.

JSW new plant to begin production, India

JSW Cement, the cement arm of the JSW group, is set to commence production from its Nandyal plant in Andhra Pradesh from next month. Vietnam producers struggle to find export markets

Vietnam cement producers are struggling to find new export markets as they seek to sell excess cement volumes. At the end of 2010, Vietnam had exported nearly 1Mt of cement and clinker by the Vietnam Cement Corporation (Vicem) and Vissai Ninh Binh. In the first eight months of the year, Vietnam exported 2.8Mt of cement and clinker, the highest ever level in the history. Vissai Ninh Binh and Vicem remain the two biggest exporters.

Iran cement production rises 16%

Iran’s cement production hit 35.2Mt in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21), according to the secretary of the Iranian Cement Industry Employers’ Union. IRNA news agency quoted Mohammad Hassan Pourkhalil as saying that the country’s cement production increased around 16.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. Indonesian cement sales are forecast to rise further this year amid aggressive growth in the property market and a build-up in infrastructure projects, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) said. ASI now forecast 2011 sales to rise 10 per cent on a year earlier, a sharper increase than

Rezzato City Council has unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding for the modernisation of Italcementi’s local cement plant, reports local press. The final go-ahead requires the approval of the Mazzano municipality as well, but work is expected to start as soon as early in November. The modernisation involves environmental improvements with a maximum production capacity of 3000tpd.
