NRC commences cement haulage from Ewekoro to Ibadan, Nigeria

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commenced cement deliveries from Ewekoro, Ogun State to Ibadan, Oyo State for Lafarge Cement Company Plc. 
Presently, about 750t of cement are being transported per week in the resumption of freight haulage, according to the Director of Public Relations, David Ndakostu.

India Resources has executed a contract with Prism Cement to develop and operate the first phase of Prism’s Sial Ghoghri coal deposits over 30 years. Once operational, the first phase of the Sial Ghoghri mine will produce 9.06Mt of coal with a total contract value of US$249m.

Cemex plans to sell about US$1bn of assets by the end of 2012 to reduce debt, CEO, Lorenzo Zambrano said. Businesses that don’t generate at least a 10 per cent return on capital over time will be sold, Zambrano said in a webcast of a meeting with analysts today in New York during Cemex Day. Indonesian to complete coal acquisition by 2012

Indonesia’s largest cement producer PT Semen Gresik said it hopes to wrap up plans to acquire two coal mines in Riau and Kalimantan not later than next year. A company’s director Erizal Bakar, said due diligence of the two mines is still in process. Indonesian demand expected to rise 13%

The Indonesia’s Cement Association sees cement demand in 2011 is expected to reach 43Mt, up 13 per cent from last year’s sales of 40.6Mt, driven mostly by demand from infrastructure and property sectors, said the chairman Urip Trimuryono. Demand in the second half of this year is forecasted to reach 22Mt, down from the previous first half of 22.49Mt.

Semen Gresik plans US$1bn bond sale next year

Semen Gresik, Indonesia’s largest cement producer, may sell bonds next year to help finance its expansion plans, a company executive has said. Oman Cement Co has obtained two loans totalling just over OMR25.77m from Bank Muscat as it aims to finance a number of modernisation projects and revamp its aging cement works. Cement Products Ltd (CPL) announced it has completed phase I of the US$50m cement plant at Njereze in the lakeshore district of Mangochi, Malawi.
